Birthday Fun in Kanab, Utah!

This year for my birthday I got to be in Kanab for work. Brady took the day off to go with me. We took off the day before because I had meetings all afternoon and an event that evening. The drive from Saint George to Kanab is absolutely beautiful! I just sat and starred out the window watching it all fly by. The amazing red rock formations in Southern Utah is so different from the mountains of Cache Valley I grew up around!

Tuesday I had an appointment with one of the services in Kanab and we just hit it off. We talked for quite a while about Kanab and serving families there. We got talking about things to do there and found out that her husband is the BLM Supervisor for the area and she encouraged me to go visit him and learn about all the hikes in the area. I was done with work for a couple hours so Brady and I decided to go see him. He told us about some amazing hikes! All I wanted to do was drop what I was doing and hit the trails. So many of them he said you will hardly see a person because people don't research them and go on them. They only go on popular ones in parks that everyone hears about. We came out with quite a list of hikes we hope to try in the near future and a hopeful Brady that we will get a jeep so we can reach those hikes! Apparently a jeep is a necessity to getting to them. Our little Toyota isn't going to cut it. I'm not sure if getting a jeep is truly in our future, but if it is, I look forward to it! He did tell us about a hike that we could do quickly in the morning near town since we wouldn't have a lot of time before my meetings. It was called.....

and it was beautiful! We had great views of the Kanab area the whole way up. The hardest part was my fear of heights made a few areas difficult, but I pushed through because I really wanted to get to the top! And it was worth it. Watching the sun come up over the city was beautiful. Pictures just don't do it justice...

Here are a few more from the hike down. I feel like everywhere we hike, there are arches being formed in the rocks.

After breakfast at the hotel we stopped by a museum in town before I headed to my meeting. Little Hollywood Museum. Apparently Kanab is the place to film movies, especially westerns, and you can go to a museum to see and hear all about it! To be honest, it was super cheesy. Brady and I only stayed for around 20 minutes, but that could be partially because it was so windy. But it was still kind of fun. =)

I promise, Brady isn't really a drinker, I just made him stand by the sign.

Ever wanted to drive a wagon? You can try it here, just with no animals to pull it...

And of course, you can't have a western without a jail and crazy looking people inside!! Get me out of here!

And lastly, this on was for my brother Jeremy.

We had a great time in Kanab and can't wait to go back and explore some more. And if Brady is lucky enough, it will be in a jeep....
